At Great Wood Primary School, we are very proud of all of the children and provide lots of opportunities for them in sports and the performing arts. The staff team offer children lots of chances to represent their school and either build on their existing skills, or try something new!
We are delighted with our rich programme of Music which allows children to enjoy learning how to play an instrument.
The huge dedication of the staff team means that so many of these opportunities are presented to children outside of school hours.
Cheadle And District School Sports Association (CADSSA)
CADSSA is an organisation of 14 primary schools who provide opportunities for children to meet and participate in competitive sport.
In 2018-19 a programme of ten different sports (athletics, cricket, cross-country, football, gymnastics, netball, rounders, swimming, tag rugby and tennis) is provided, to offer children the chance to represent their school, develop their skills in competition and also to make friends.
Dancers at Great Wood Primary School have the chance to perform in two shows throughout the school year and do so wonderully!
One is hosted by our sister school, St. Werburgh's C.E. (A) Primary, and the other celebrates dance across twelve local schools with performers aged from 4-18.
As part of a school sport cluster, Great Wood Primary School offer a programme of sporting opportunities for children to play against (and with) pupils from local schools with whom they will go to High School.
These events are designed to give children chances to represent their school, learn new skills and also to make friends ahead of transition to High School. The programme offers a diverse range of sports to allow children a taster of something a little different.
Events have included: archery, tri-golf, dodgeball, netball, multi-skills, speed-stacking, cricket, football, tag rugby, athletics and also some disciplines from Paralympic Sports. At the time of major international sporting events, each school will also adopt the nationality of another country and play on their behalf to raise awareness of and appreciation for our global society!
Led by The Cheadle Academy, our Cluster Sports events involve children from Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6!
In the summer term, we come together to celebrate the successes of the year with a very special 'Sports Awards Evening' which is almost as big as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year...almost!
As part of The Moorlands Primary Federation (TMPF), children get the chance to build friendships, develop skills and enjoy wonderful experiences with pupils in their sister schools.
Each year, we celebrate sport through a programme of activities aimed at every year group. Events take place in each school and we even provide 'virtual events' too!
The School Games is a national programme of opportunities for children to come together and play sports.
Great Wood Primary School have enjoyed taking part in these events and through this, even managed to play at the home of The Football Association, St. George's Park!
