Counting our chickens!

Class One have been very busy learning to look after their chicks. The first one arrived on Tuesday 19th March looking tiny and a bit bald, but by the next morning it was lovely and fluffy and had been joined by two more! Every day there have been more and more chicks, and we now have 16! As the chicks grow stronger, they move into a bigger cage in the classroom with a special heat lamp, called a brooder. The children have been learning about animal husbandry, feeding, handling and hygiene. They have also been learning about the seven different breeds that we have including Cuckoo Marans, Lavender Leghorns, Araucana and Gold Laced Barnevelder!

New Kids at Dilhorne

Say Hello to our two new kids, Pygmy goats Colin (named by Mr Eccles!) and his sister, Nibbles. Like all new kids, they were a bit nervous at first but they soon settled in and are now loving life on the Dilhorne Farm!

Bouncing our way to friendship and fun!

Each of the five sister schools within TMPF were delighted to join friends from Cheadle Primary School and participate in a basketball event staged by The Cheadle Academy (TCA).
Four boys and four girls took part in the celebration of sport, which began with a skills session and concluded with an exciting tournament.
Throughout the morning, every child had a chance to develop their understanding of the game and play competitively against one another. It was a great opportunity to make friends and try a new sport… whilst maybe beginning a journey towards the NBA!
The closely-fought event was eventually won by our TMPF friends at St. Werburgh's C.E. (A) Primary. Congratulations to all who took part and to Mrs Evans and the wonderful Sports Leaders from TCA who led the event and doubled up as coaches.

Pupils mark Centenary at Cenotaph

Pupils from Dilhorne Endowed C.E (A) Primary visited the local cenotaph to pay their respects to those brave men and women who fought for their country and to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I. The children sang beautifully and read the names of those sadly lost in conflict.

On Armistice Day, a group of children from Dilhorne Endowed C.E. (A) Primary joined Parishioners, Councillors and members of their community at Dilhorne Recreation Centre for a special commemoration to mark 100 years since the end of World War I.

The event culminated with the children singing and the Lord Lieutenant lighting a Beacon at 7pm, as part of a very special act of unity and remembrance with other villages and towns.

'Wow Factor' Retreat

Members of the Dilhorne Endowed  C.E. (A) Primary School Worship Council were delighted to join friends from their sister school, St. Werburgh's C.E. (A) Primary School and new friends from Hanley St. Luke's Primary, at a religious retreat in Dovedale, organised by the Diocese of Lichfield.

The group of six boys and girls from Dilhorne visited Dovedale House in Ilam for the 24 hour retreat and worked with staff from the Diocese of Lichfield, including the wonderful Bishop Geoff, to explore how they could bring a sense of the wonder and awe of God into the worship which the Council will plan and lead in school.

Open Church

Children at Dilhorne Endowed C.E. (A) Primary were delighted to join members of their Parish at an ‘Open Church’ session at All Saints Church on November 7th.

The event allowed children to explore the past, learn about bell-ringing and enjoy a presentation from Levison Wood. Images of brave, fallen soldiers from the village were projected onto church with their names read out as a beautiful act of remembrance.

Pupils sang a section of famous wartime songs and also showed their artistic skills to create a large poppy display, to join the one produced by the Parish.

We Will Remember Them.

Dilhorne Endowed C.E. (A) Primary School are delighted to have contributed to a community initiative to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I.

Through this special event, Dilhorne joined all TMPF schools and other local community groups and schools to create displays for shop windows in Cheadle High Street to mark our appreciation of the brave service men, women and animals who have fought for, and protected, their country.

Thank you to all shops and community groups for making this such a special event and also to 'Sidney's Hair' for housing the display created by the children and team at Dilhorne Endowed C.E. (A) Primary School.

Children plant tree for Commonwealth with a Secretary of State.

Children plant tree for Commonwealth with a Secretary of State.

A group of our wonderful children were thrilled to be invited by the Parish Council to meet our local MP and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Rt. Hon. Karen Bradley, and join thousands of people across many different countries in planting trees in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.

“It was really lovely to join a group of school children from Dilhorne Endowed C.E. (A) Primary School recently to plant a hazel tree in Dilhorne as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy. I look forward to seeing the tree grow and flourish and would like to thank the children and teachers for their help in linking Dilhorne to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.” Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP

Many thanks to Mrs Bradley for spending so much time chatting to our children (and tree-planting experts!) at Dilhorne Rec and to Cllr. Carnal and the Dilhorne Parish Council for letting us be part of something so special.
