SEND & Inclusion

At TMPF Trust, we are committed to ensuring that every child can flourish in an inclusive, nurturing, faith-based* environment.

What is SEND?

SEND means Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. There are four broad categories of SEND:

  • communication and interaction;

  • cognition and learning;

  • social, emotional and mental health;

  • physical and sensory.

TMPF Trust schools, provide pupils with a broad, balanced curriculum with high quality teaching that is adapted or differentiated to the learning needs of all. Pupils are regularly assessed by the class teacher and appropriate members of the school team and where it is felt that additional support may be needed, interventions are considered. Slow progress and low attainment will not automatically mean that a pupil has SEND.

Each child within TMPF Trust has a special place in our school family and, as we are an organisation with the majority of faith schools, in God’s family.

All children are wonderfully different and bring light, joy and happiness in many ways. At TMPF Trust, we value and celebrate these differences and the talents of all.

A number of children in each of our schools encounter additional challenges with their learning and may be identified as having Special Educational Needs or a Disability. Within our Trust, although we do not offer a diagnosis of these, we can offer support, signposting and will provide support to learners and families.

Graduated Response

TMPF Trust schools follow the Graduated Response as set out in the SEND Code of Practice.

1. Assess

The school team work together to build a clear picture of a child’s strengths, needs and barriers to learning.

2. Plan

The team agree the adjustments, strategies and interventions required. Plans are created with clear outcomes.

3. Do

The class teacher will implement the planned support, working closely with the SENDCo/ Welfare Co-ordinator and support staff to make sure that reasonable adjustments are in place.

4. Review

The team evaluate how well the support is working and adapt as needed. Reviews take place regularly and always involve parents/ carers and the child (where appropriate). If progress is limited, we adjust the provision or consider specialist support or referrals if appropriate.

Each school is part of the local SEND & Inclusion Hub, where additional advice and support can be sought from external specialists and other SENDCos. Through the hub, schools can request an Enhanced Assess, Plan, Do, Review (EAPDR) process and a range of support strategies or services.

For pupils who may have significant or more complex needs or who fail to make expected levels of progress despite SEND support, school and/ or parents/carers may consider applying to the Local Authority for an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) & Welfare Co-ordinator

Each TMPF Trust school has a SENDCo or a Welfare Co-ordinator to oversee arrangements for pupils with identified special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

If parents/ carers have concerns regarding additional needs which their child may have, or the provision to meet these needs, then they should first speak with their child’s class teacher. Following this, parents and carers can contact the school Welfare Co-ordinator/ SENDCo who will offer advice (see individual school sites).

TMPF Trust’s SEND Leader is an experienced and qualified leader of SEND who is responsible for overseeing SEND Provision across the family of schools and for leading termly meetings of the schools’ SENDCOs and Welfare Co-ordinators.
