This half term children have been enjoying Bug Club with Rent a Beast. They have met stick insects, huge bugs and tarantellas! This is one of our children’s favourite clubs and was extremely well attended. They all had an amazing time meeting their crawly friends!

As part of this years Remembrance, the school took an active part in the local community events. Pupils laid a wreath at the Tean War Memorial and one at the Church memorial. Seven year five pupils read out the soldiers’ and service personnel’s names, who died during World War One. During the church service, pupils read out WW1 poems to the congregation. After the service the congregation were invited to school for refreshments and a chance to come together as a community.

The children in Mrs Rees’ class have been making bonfire and firework art this afternoon. The reception children used forks to create fireworks and the year 1 children have used cotton buds and paint to create bonfire art.

Pupils from Great Wood and The Cheadle Academy went around Tean as part of the fundraising that both schools participate in as they support the Poppy Appeal. On a cold Sunday morning the pupils gave up their time for this worth while cause. Working alongside the Royal British Legion the school is preparing for a busy time as the November Remembrance events continue.

Year 5/6 pupils prepared to celebrate and learn about Diwali by designing and painting a traditional welcome, using a Rangoli pattern. The pupils had learnt about the story of Diwali during assemblies and RE lessons, then combined art with their mathematical learning to apply their symmetrical knowledge. I am sure you agree it looks fabulous as a welcome to our school and as a symbol to celebrate the Festival of Lights.

Year 1/2 had fun making Diwali cards as the pupils learnt about the Festival if Light. It was a very colourful lesson that mixed many areas of the curriculum as the pupils explored another religion. This was part of a whole school activity to celebrate the beginning of Diwali.

As the school celebrated the end of the first half term: parents, staff and pupils came together for a spooky themed disco, which was hosted by our wonderful PTFA. Over 80 children boogied to ‘Ghostbusters’ and other classics in their wonderful costumes. Prizes were handed out and on the way home they left through the pumpkins that had been so brilliantly carved, lighting up our spooky driveway. Thanks to the PTFA for decorating the hall and hosting such a popular family event for all ages, across the school. Happy holidays!

The pupils gave a warm welcome to Reverend Julie Hassall for her first assembly in her new role as the Methodist Minister in our local area. Her assembly was fun and engaging while linking to Saints and the preparation athletes are taking in order to be ready for Tokyo 2020. She even had the School Leader acting out sporting parts in a game of charades, Mr Adamson found the long jump easy, not so Sumo Wrestling. A whole school song brought the assembly to a harmonious end. We look forward to welcoming Julie back as she continues to support the school through assemblies and Godly Play.

Pupils in year 3/4 used their craft skills to create some wonderfully colourful artwork to celebrate Diwali. They have been learning about Diwali and its importance as a religious festival at this time of year. This artwork will proudly go on display around school so please look out for it.

Our KS1 children have been exploring how firefighters work and their role in our community. Following on from this they have learnt about what components make up a moving vehicle and how they work. The children have designed their own fire engine, completing plans on how construct their vehicle. The children then made their fire engines from cereal boxes, knex, cotton reels, blu tack and cellotape. They were amazing!
